Meet Our Donors

Personal Donor Stories

On behalf of The Hickman, we would like to thank all of our current donors for their generosity and support. Here are some of their stories.

Agatha Hellenthal

A Hickman resident since November 1999, Agatha Hellenthal has established two Charitable Gift Annuities for The Hickman. Explaining her decision she commented, “I selected a gift annuity because I knew that this was the best way to receive a reliable and generous income while also making a gift. I would never have been able to do a gift of this size had I not been able to receive life income. I am interested in several non-profit groups, but as a resident I selected The Hickman because I felt it was a very good thing for both me and The Hickman.”

John J. (Executive Director of The Hickman) and Maryann R. Schwab

“Little did I know when I came to The Hickman in 1984 that I would be here today. It sounds like a cliché, but The Hickman and its mission to serve moderate income elderly in the midst of a very affluent Pennsylvania County just draws you closer and closer over time. Maryann and I knew we needed to work on our will to make sure we cared for our family. We have never thought of ourselves as philanthropists. But when you really think about it, it is people like us making bequests for organizations like The Hickman that have made the difference between financial stability and financial struggle. Putting The Hickman in our will means we will be a part of future financial success.”

Richard T. and Margaret Hoover Brigham (Board of Managers)

“I have really gotten emotionally involved in The Hickman – they do a good job and I like volunteering there. It has become a particular interest of ours,” Dick explains. Dick Brigham joined The Hickman Board in 1987. He and his wife Peggy were among the first to learn of the Hickman’s Charitable Gift Annuity program. “The decision to establish a gift annuity wasn’t a difficult one for us. From the beginning it sounded like a really good idea and it especially makes sense to make a gift that provides income for both of us, regardless of who lives longer.”
